This One Thing I Can Do

There are many things over which we have no control.  We could not control when or where we came into this world.  We have no control over who our parents are, the color of our skin, nor where we were raised.  There are certain diseases and other ailments many are born with, or, are afflicted by later over which they have no control.  We cannot control the fact that every day we get older or the fact that someday we will die.  We cannot control the day in which we come face to face with our maker.  Those things over which we have no control are countless and all people are affected by them.  It is these situations wherein the existence of God is denounced or He is cursed for allowing such atrocities to occur.  We must realize that uncontrollable situations are a part of life and how we handle these decides what turn life makes next.

Hardships are a part of life which teaches the lessons of life (James 1:1-8).  While being in the midst of trials can be unpleasant and uncontrollable, there is something over which we do have control. We have control over what we do when we are faced with those things over which we have not control.  Regardless what happens in life, we can control our actions, how we respond, what we think and say.  Then, it is these things that give us the ultimate control of our destiny.  You see, it is these things that will decide what happens when we stand face to face with our maker and give an account for what we did in life (2 Cor. 5:10).

So, while there are circumstances beyond our control, we do have control over the most important.  The question remains, what will you do with the power you have?  Will you control life, or will life control you? Will you take control over your own destiny?
